Back on that blog again.

Almost a year after its release, it’s nice to watch this project that, a year ago, I spent every waking minute working on.

Happy Friday. Get creative this weekend

Let’s Build Something Together from Ben Derico on Vimeo.

I am pleased to present to you all the results of my recent post asking you to join me in a creative/collaborative project. If you don’t remember, everyone was given an image and asked to use it as inspiration to create something original of their own. Some interpretations are near to the original and others very far away, but the influence is noticeable.

I had several people submit and I’m still waiting on about a half dozen more.If you are still interested in submitting, send ‘em in and I’ll put it up here. Until the rest come in, enjoy what we have so far and stay tuned for more projects in the “Let’s Build Something Together Project!”

So the past few days I think I’ve been struggling with what they call “creative block.” Perhaps caused by my “Create Everyday” project, or maybe just exacerbated by it, but nonetheless it is present. So, as a means to perhaps free my brain from the thoughtless, uncreative blank that it has been for the past few days, I thought I would ask you all to join me in a little activity.
I got the idea from this post I saw a few weeks back in my Tumblr feed where people were given a sheet of paper with a small figure drawn on it and asked to fill in the rest. The results were all totally different and incredibly imaginative. So, taking that idea we move to the above image which, I’m hoping, will be a template for all of us to work together and create something inspiring. If you interested, follow below.
1. Download the image above by right clicking, or whateverz.
2. Import it into Illustrator, Photoshop, Paint, or whateverzz.
3. Create something around it. You can print and draw on it, paint on it, or keep it all digital. I don’t really think it matters. Just give it a go!
4. Send me your reply via the Tumblr Dashboard, above on the “submit” button, or send them to me at bderico@gmail.com and I’ll share them on here.
This could be a neat idea or it could just make me look really lonely. So, join in. Let’s build something together!

Create 8: My new Online Portfolio.
I hope all of you are allowing the liberty I am to myself in your interpretations of create “everyday.” Although it’s been about a week since I posted about my current project, I can assure you that it has all been dedicated to one project: my new portfolio. Running on the Behance Network, I could not be more pleased with the results so far. There are still a few more tweaks to make, but I didn’t want to leave y’all empty-handed before the weekend. So, enjoy and have a great fall weekend!

Create 7: Mini Planets!

These neat lil guys are the product of a new landscape photography trick I just read about and wanted to give a shot. Well, really it’s more of a photoshop technique, but you need a panorama photo to make them. Over the past year I’ve shot lots of panoramas of places I’ve visited but until now really had no use for them. I’m curious to see what else I can make with this technique.

In Order: Chicago Skyline at Night from Adler Planetarium, San Francisco at dusk from The Marina, San Francisco Bay on a cloudy day from the Bay Bridge.

Create 6: Last night after working on the Owen Pallett project I decided to see if I could make two things from the same photo. Today’s entry is part two of that idea.
I’ve really been itching lately to get out and explore again like I have for the past year. With little means to do so right now, hopefully my “creative juices” can help me reach new places even when I have no budget for travel.

Create something everyday: Day 4

Over the weekend, instead of creating something totally new, I teamed up with @teresa_gl to make my first project more internationally appealing. I give you two new signs written in Spanish & Gallego. If you’d like to customize this sign to fit your language, drop me a not.
